Age-related Ptosis

Acquired sinking of one or both upper eyelids.

The technique of the surgery should be well chosen, since a wrong procedure can cause irreversible damage to the eyelid or even to the whole eye.

The acquired ptosis is commonly caused by the attachment weakening of the levator muscle in the upper eyelid.

Sometimes the power of the levator muscle itself is weakened by alterations concerning its structure. This can be caused by fatty degeneration or atrophy as myasthenia does.

The surgical correction at an oculoplastic centre shows promise.
