Congenital Ptosis

Hanging upper eyelid since birth can occur one-sided or bilateral.

There are different aetiological reasons. Mostly the levator muscle is restricted in its activity and the hanging upper eyelid sometimes covers the pupil of the eye and seeing is limited. For compensation, some children stretch their head backwards for being able to see well.

The cover of the pupil also causes, especially if babies have this problem, a weak-sightedness called amblyopia. The right point in time for surgical intervention has to be chosen in agreement with the ophthalmologist. It must not be chosen too late!

In dependence of the surgical technique which is applied, there is a good chance of success.
