Blepharophimosis

Congenital bilateral constriction of the palpebral fissure.

The height and the length of the palpebral fissure are shortened with a wrinkle of the epicanthus built by the broader bridge. Often accumulated in families.

This area simulates an esotropia (pseudostrabism). In addition to that, there are sometimes inverted or everted lid margins with equivalent symptoms.

According to the level of the disease, the pupils are covered so grave, that a surgical correction should take place if necessary also at early infancy. This avoids an amblyopia.

In addition to the correction of the epicanthi, there is often indicated a surgical suspension with the Musculus frontalis.
