Facial Palcy

The paralyzed region of the brow and the lid is flagged and sagged.

Facial nerve paresis may have different causes and has different clinical appearances, in dependence of localisation and severity of the affected facial nerves, which all cause the correspondent trouble for the patients. Thus, the paresis of different branches of the facial nerve around the ocular and forehead-region causes different manifestations of the respective pathology.

Some patients have got a sagging of the eyebrow which causes a restriction of the field of view. In contrast to this, patients who have got a paresis of the “sphincter of the eyelid” - musculus orbicularis-, get a deficit of the eyelid- closure with problems of drying on the surface of the respective eye. Many patients also have flagged lower eyelids which are distorted outwards and which are sagged.

The therapy postulates, according to circumstances, a cooperation of different specialist departments.

The possible complications for the eyes can be significantly reduced by an adequate surgery of the eyelids.
