Lower Eyelid Entropium

Inversion of the lower eyelid.

The edge of the lower eyelid is inverted and the eyelashes rub on the eye surface. On the long run, this can lead to painful ulcerations and infections of the cornea. If therapy is delayed enduring damages which seriously affect vision can develop.

An entropium can be caused by

  • Congenital alterations of the eyelids and of the face

  • Acquired alterations of the eyelids and of the face

  • Acquired atony of the tissue of the lid area

  • Diseases of the mucosa(s) with affection of the eyes

  • Vulnerations

The treatment is adapted to the cause. It is normally possible to treat by surgery.

If there is a systemic cause, the cooperation of different departments is necessary.
