Dear Patients,

On our path together from diagnosis to therapy, we need to bear in mind the following important points for your appointments.

For your first examination you require (where applicable):

  • Doctor’s letter
  • Allergy card
  • X-rays, CT, MRT images
  • Previous eye or lid surgery reports
  • Eye drops or ointments
  • Old photo of your face and eye area

Operation:

  • Under general anesthetic: verified ECG and laboratory values (blood count, electrolytes, clotting); if over 65: chest X-ray
  • In consultation with your family doctor you must discontinue all aspirin, ASS100, or other blood thinners two weeks before your lid operation! Your PT must be >60%. If you are using blood thinners, we need a blood count and clotting status. If your family doctor deems it necessary, treatment with Heparin is possible during this time.
  • If you are having an inpatient procedure, bring your daily medicines with you.

On the day of your eyelid operation:

  • Remove any jewelry, make-up, contact lenses, and hearing aids beforehand
Wear clothes that are not removed over the head.
  • Even if you are having an outpatient procedure, allow for two hours of rest time in the clinic to enable monitoring of the area of the operation and for your general wellbeing.
  • You will not be able to drive due to the eye dressing! Please arrange for someone to collect you.

After your eyelid operation:

  • No strenuous physical exertion for a week as this can provoke secondary bleeding.
  • Painkillers such as paracetamol may be taken if needed, but do not take any painkillers that are also blood thinners, (see above).
  • Depending on the suturing material and sutured area, your stitches will normally be removed by us or your follow-up doctor within two weeks.

Check-ups:

  • After your operation medical check-ups are done by us or the doctor who referred you.
  • If possible e-mail us a photo after four months for our quality control.
